Grande Dame. Shore Hearts oldest rescue dog.
Jennie lives on sheer will and her indomitable drive to keep going. There is something to be said for being headstrong and stubborn!
Found five years ago wandering in a blistering snow storm by Central Regional High School, someone called Animal Control who turned her into the Manahawkin Shelter where she waited for a month. Carol saw her picture on Petfinder and contacted Lana who in turn called the shelter and was told this old girls time was up. When they got to the shelter they found this old, frail girl and couldn’t leave her behind.
Her age was guessed at between 10-12. Her health was unknown.
She was spayed and at that time it was discovered she had both uterine abscesses and tumors.
Her breath, bad enough to keep anyone at bay was due to her horrible teeth, of which, half were removed.
She came to me as a Hospice dog. We had no expectation for how long she would live but our goal was to give her the best life possible.
No one told Jennie!
Every day she must do her job which starts with her rounds to be sure everything is fine. Doing this a few times a day, she starts by heading down to the front gate, then rings her way back around the other side of the yard to check the back gate and around again to the side door. A distance of over 2 acres. Now she has an army with her as Spring and Daisy join the dawn patrol.
She stands proudly after her rounds in the driveway and scans the yard one more time before heading in. I watch her hold her head up high and breezes blow the fur around her face which has a look of satisfaction at a job well done.
No one told Jennie that old means you have no value or must give up your reason for living.
She will not be denied. Her age only means she does things slower but in her heart she is still a strong, young beautiful girl!
I would not give up one minute of having had the chance to experience such a wonderful life!
