SHGRR – Adoption Procedure
We, the Volunteers of Shore Hearts Golden Retriever Rescue thank you
for visiting our website.
Shore Hearts is a small rescue group in New Jersey located on the jersey shore
catering to goldens and the golden hearted dogs. All of our fosters are
in private homes with families learning basic manners and social skills, house
manners and basic obedience. Since socialization is so important to learn
at an early age, our puppies attend puppy classes to learn this skill. We
are not in a storefront, nor a kennel and all of our adoptable can only be
viewed on this website.
If you are interested in any of our fosters please complete the on-line adoption
application and e-mail it as an attachment to adoptions@shorehearts.org. We
ask that your Veterinarian record showing proof that your present pet is up-to-date
on ALL shots and is either neutered/spayed be faxed to us at 212 746 8941. We
also request that your references (either neighbors or business associates)
e-mail Shore Hearts at adoptions@shorehearts.org with their information. No
one will be calling your references or Vet to remind them to send in this information,
it will be up to you to make sure that everything is sent in within a months
time or your application will be null and void. Once the application is complete
a volunteer will call to set up a home visit.
Please remember that we are a small group of volunteers. Even after
you're approved to adopt a dog from our group, there may be a wait
for the right dog. While you're considering adopting a golden or golden
hearted, please think about fostering. Fostering a golden or golden
hearted may well save a dog's life. If you happen to fall in love with
your foster dog, then we'll work with you to make the adoption happen.
Again, thank you for your interest in Shore Hearts Golden Retriever
Rescue. We hope that if you don't find the dog of your dreams
on our site today that you will come back and visit us again in a short
while.
The Volunteers of SHGRR
We generally REQUIRE that
You commit to make the dog part of your family and to
keep the dog as a housedog and companion.
The dog be spayed or neutered
before adoption.
You have a fenced yard.
You submit a completed adoption application
and have a home visit that indicates the particular dog appears suitable
for your home. Please be aware that an adopted dog often goes through
a settling in period. No one can know for sure how a particular dog
will settle into your home and get along with your other pets. However,
we'll give you our thoughts on how the dog will likely do and be available
for advice and assistance if you have any questions after the adoption.
You take your adopted dog to a veterinarian within a month of adoption
for an introductory visit and to transfer your dogs records. We suggest
that your adopted dog have a fecal test for intestinal parasites at
this time. Although we will have had the dog tested while in our care,
some intestinal parasites are difficult to detect. Also you should
pick up your heartworm preventative at this time.
You keep your adopted
dog current on shots and provide other necessary veterinary care.
You
give your adopted dog a monthly heartworm preventative and an annual
heartworm test. Please be aware that our heartworm testing will most
likely not detect any heartworm infestation, which occurred in the
immediately proceeding six months.
You sign a legally binding contract
at the time of adoption.
If for any reason you can no longer keep your
adopted dog, you either return the dog to us or transfer the dog to
a home approved by us.
You make a requested adoption donation of $200
(a larger donation will be required for puppies). These donation help
defray the cost associated with veterinary care, spaying or neutering,
and fostering the dogs and help us care for golden hearted dogs who
have serious or chronic conditions.
We don't want to discourage you from adopting from us, but we do want
you to think about the responsibilities of doing so. We hope that we
have the dog for you!
